Communication Continues To Be Key

2017-12-07T20:23:39+00:00

With the release of California's new baseline test scores on Wednesday, September 9, we know this is a critical time for parents, teachers, administrators, and school board members. As California teachers, schools, and districts delve into students' scores to better understand how to improve every student's academic performance, it is critical for public education stakeholders to communicate effectively with each other and with the community. We look forward to continuing the important work of the Common Core Communications Campaign and bringing our partners together to explore new opportunities to provide communication resources and training. We applaud the California Department of Education as they continue to collaborate [...]

Here we focus on a video series from Idaho focused on mathematics implementation of CCSS. One video does an excellent job at explaining the difference between standards and curriculum. Other videos in the series walk through each grade and illustrate how the Common [...]

How do I communicate what Common Core really is?

2017-12-07T20:31:37+00:00

School leaders and school board members across the country are struggling to explain the value of the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) to parents and community members. California’s transition to CCSS represents a key part of our state’s public education remodeling project, but given the scope of the change it is difficult for the larger community to really understand what it is, what it isn’t, and what it all means for our students. Fortunately, there are already a number of communication tools that can be used by school leaders to communicate (a) why CCSS was developed, (b) how it [...]
