Have you run into a parent in the grocery store or on the street who corners you about something they heard was in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)? Or have you seen wild claims on social media about nefarious content in CCSS? Your instincts tell you that there is a lot of misinformation out there, but you may have thought it difficult to address specific concerns or questions in a timely way. The good news is that there is an app for that!
The Common Core App, developed by Mastery Connect, is a free mobile app that allows you to look up any standard in the Common Core for both Math and Language Arts K-12 and includes other resources as well. There is a general Common Core app and a specific California Common Core app.
It is a great tool for educators, as it allows you to quickly find standards by subject, grade, and subject category, as well as see how the standards build upon one another. It is also a great resource for parents to understand the connection between a lesson and its purpose.
The Common Core app will allow you to easily search and respond to questions or concerns about what is and is not in the standards, both checking what’s really in there as well as de-bunking erroneous claims about them.
The app is available for iOS and Android – for more info see Mastery Connect’s California page or search for the app in your app store.
