In November and December 2015, the CA LMI held two regional convenings in Los Angeles (November) and Emeryville (December). These convenings were attended by district and county office of education teams (including the superintendent, teachers union/association president, classified union/association president, and a board member) that were not able to attend the May 2015 Symposium. In total, 47 district and county office teams attended these convenings. A map of participating teams is available here.
Separate meeting websites were created for each convening, including agendas, session information and slides, focus questions, and participant lists:
At the conclusion of the symposium, all participants were asked to complete an online evaluation survey.
“I think this is a great initiative and hope that this approach will continue to be pursued” (Los Angeles)
“You have the right idea and what is supposed to be natural is actually very difficult…I like the way we were able to sit together and talk.” (Los Angeles)
“The team talk time was imperative to begin the partnership. The presentations were positive and realistic” (Emeryville)
“I found overall that the conference had a good mix of inspirational with nuts and bolts how to discussions.” (Emeryville)
“We were able to have conversations about some serious topics in a nonthreatening environment. When things got too tense we could redirect ourselves to the conference and not ruin the relationships we were all trying to build.” (Emeryville)
